Join our fearless showgirl “FooFoo LaBelle” and her madcap maestro on a fantastical (and true!) journey through her life, discovering the six steps needed to build a Burlesque Legend. Together they expose the secrets of a globetrotting showgirl. Encounter ballet dancers, circus elephants, performing sharks, pantomime cats, and more on their inspirational quest for stardom.
The pair journey through time, starting with the turbulent 70’s in Cold War Britain (don’t worry, they have central heating now!), bursting through the iconic 80’s battling beasts with power ballads and sparkly wigs. Next to the prosperous 90’s where they learn what really happens in Copenhagen on a Saturday Night. After a lot of dodgy decisions, our hero finally finds a home in Wales and discovers a stage that makes complete sense. Like a fine wine, or a smelly cheese, some things only get better with age.

This unique, intergenerational paring, was first brought together at the Wales Millennium Centre in Duncan Hallis's ‘The First XXXMas: A Very Naughtytivity’ where their combined neurodivergence erupted into an eclectic, chaotic, theatre-making duo!

With only two on stage, the cast of characters is phenomenal - ranging from schoolchild to superstar, via puppet and elephant. The journey through the process of building a burlesque legend is fast paced and always exciting. Moments of audience participation show real versatility, and with such an array of skills showcased throughout there's plenty for everyone to enjoy!

People write this about shows too often without meaning it - but I really was 𝘭𝘢𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘹𝘵, and as I looked around during the standing ovation I saw that others too were grinning, clapping and crying all at once. ⁣⁣𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘸𝘨𝘪𝘳𝘭𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘴 is cleverly written and beautifully performed - a fascinating life story full of pain, joy and solace. I defy anyone not to enjoy this night out. ⁣

Showgirls and Sharks is a wonderful piece of theatrical entertainment. It covers the making of a showgirl in six "simple" steps, telling the story of the multi-talented entertainment powerhouse that is "Foo Foo Labelle". There are happy bits, there are sad bits. To most people, the life described takes place in another universe, and it certainly is, but this production just oozes authenticity. The double-act is seamless, with Gawne sharing the tale of her life with Dyckhoff providing the structure, music and cues and banter, keeping Foo Foo firmly grounded. Pure entertainment - fascinating, thought provoking, inspiring and funny.
